2026 Capital Levy

The Lynden School Board passed Resolution #03-26 at its February 19, 2026 meeting to place a funding initiative before voters in the April 28, 2026 special election. The proposed levy would allow for funds to be collected for:

  • Bernice Vossbeck Elementary School- Expansion & Longevity
  • Isom Elementary School- Expansion & Longevity
  • Lynden Academy- Facility Acquisition & Renovation
  • Facilities, Safety, and Maintenance Improvement- Districtwide
  • Instructional Technology Replacement

The levy focuses on extending the life of existing facilities, reducing reliance on temporary solutions, and avoiding significantly larger costs in the future. The levy would collect funds from 2027 through 2030.

Our community owns more than $250 million in public school facilities — buildings paid for by generations of residents to serve children. Today, more than 3,500 students attend these schools. Protecting this investment means ensuring these facilities remain strong and we extend the life of the buildings for decades.

Community members and elected officials have developed a responsible long-term facilities plan that sets priorities, addresses critical needs, and evaluates costs carefully. This capital levy is focused on maintaining and improving the schools we already own. Maintaining and improving facilities now helps prevent far more expensive emergency repairs or full replacements later.

If approved, the levy will extend the life of existing buildings, improve safety and security, reduce reliance on leased space, and provide a permanent home for Lynden Academy. Completing major maintenance and expansion at Isom Elementary and Bernice Vossbeck Elementary removes the need to build a costly fourth elementary school in the foreseeable future.

Like homes and businesses, public buildings require routine care. Delayed repairs lead to higher costs over time. This four-year levy represents a short-term investment in preserving community owned facilities.

Voting ‘YES’ to approve the levy supports safe schools, responsible planning, and long-term stewardship of public assets.
